our Summer Dare Celebration on Saturday, July 30, from 10 am to Noon.
All ages are invited to our outdoor festival in Greene Square to wrap up the Summer Dare! Witness the amazing feats of Elevate Vertical Fitness and magician Jackson Greene; delight in the bubbles of street artist Michael Sanders; see two Iowa Raptors up close; enjoy free popcorn, visit the Rio Burritos or Grateful Crepe food trucks, or check out Greyhound Cafe indoors.
Activities include a bouncy tent, a Jungle Bus, face painting, local athletes, crafts, music, games, and lots of area businesses and organizations volunteering time and talent to make this a party not to be missed.
The Summer Dare Celebration is sponsored by Rockwell Collins.
About the Summer Dare
The 2016 Summer Dare is not your average summer reading program. It is an intergenerational summer learning program that challenges the entire community to read it, picture it, move it, celebrate it, explore it, imagine it, make it, and wing it!
The 2016 Summer Dare includes a reading challenge for all ages, weekly themed activities designed to encourage lifelong learning, intergenerational programs, and unexpected experiences at the library and beyond. The program runs through July 31. Participants can register online at summerdare.crlibrary.org or at both the Ladd Library and the Downtown Library.
Everyone receives a free Dare Journal and a coupon for a free Friends Book Nook book simply by signing up. All who complete Summer Dare will receive a free book (adults receive another Friends Book Nook Coupon). Additionally, readers will get a free book for every 300 minutes read throughout the Summer Dare.
To complete the Summer Dare, participants must read 300 minutes and complete eight “dares” as listed in the Summer Dare guide by July 31. Dares are based on the theme of each week. Some can be done in the library but many can be done throughout the community or even at home.
Track your minutes read and dares completed throughout the program on the website summerdare.crlibrary.org.
Participants can stop in to either library location throughout the summer and visit the Dare Desk to register, record their progress, turn in their completed reading logs, and get puff-balls to add to the Dare Drop. The Dare Drop is a physical representation of all the reading and dares being done throughout the summer.
Special events for all ages will be held throughout the CRPL Summer Dare. For a complete listing, visit our event calendar on our website at www.crlibrary.org or pick up a CRPL Summer Dare guide at the Library.
